Reform’s Deputy Leader, Richard Tice, is facing credibility challenges following accusations of nearly £100,000 in unpaid corporation tax by his companies, according to the Labour Party. Party Chair, Anna Turley, has called for an urgent explanation from Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform, on why Tice continues as the second-in-command.
Turley emphasized that Tice’s credibility has been severely damaged and demanded clarity from Farage on the situation. She highlighted the seriousness of the scandal, pointing out that Tice had previously called for resignations over smaller tax errors. Tice responded by stating his willingness to rectify any discrepancies in payments if necessary.
Allegations surfaced that Tice operated four shell companies that allegedly evaded tax on profits from 2020 to 2022. These companies were purportedly established solely to receive dividends from Tice’s property investment firm and channel funds to the parent company. Tisun Investments Ltd reportedly transferred £1,113,000 to Reform UK during the specified period.
In a bid to defend Tice, Robert Jenrick, a former Tory member, mentioned Tice’s extensive business career and contributions to job creation and tax payments. He stated that Tice had sought professional tax advice and believed he had fulfilled his tax obligations. The Liberal Democrats have also urged HMRC to investigate the allegations promptly.
Despite the calls for scrutiny, Jenrick highlighted that HMRC had not initiated an investigation into the matter. Tice defended his track record, emphasizing his global business experience and commitment to fulfilling tax responsibilities. He reiterated his willingness to address any payment discrepancies and criticized the ongoing attempts to tarnish his reputation.
Tice expressed frustration over the persistent scrutiny, attributing it to discouraging successful businesspeople from entering politics. He underscored his focus on serving constituents and campaigning for local elections, denouncing the emphasis on financial matters amid his efforts to contribute to the country’s welfare.
