A prominent bullfighter in Spain suffered a severe injury when a bull’s horn pierced his rectum, causing a 10cm wound. José Antonio Morante Camacho, also known as Morante de la Puebla, was competing at La Maestranza bullring in Seville when the incident occurred. The bullfighter, often referred to as the ‘king of bullfighters,’ was gored by a bull named ‘Clandestino’ during the April Fair event.
Videos of the incident captured the bull’s horn striking Morante’s buttock, resulting in a tear in his clothing. Morante was visibly distressed and had to be carried out of the ring by fellow bullfighters after the attack. Earlier in the event, he had already suffered a minor injury when a bull caught his ear.
Following a two-hour surgery, medical reports revealed the extent of Morante’s injuries, describing a 10cm wound that partially damaged his anal sphincter muscles and perforated the rectum wall. Doctors at the scene had to perform a specialized surgical procedure to repair the damage.
The unfortunate incident overshadowed the rest of the event, raising concerns about Morante’s well-being. Prior to the festival, Morante had made headlines by cutting off his traditional bullfighter’s pigtail, a move that had built anticipation for his return to the ring. Despite the accident, a large crowd had gathered to witness his comeback during a sold-out show at the bullring.
