Racing Sensation Rachael Blackmore Expecting First Child

Rachael Blackmore, the retired racing sensation, has revealed that she is pregnant with her first child alongside fellow jockey Brian Hayes. The couple recently exchanged vows in a warm ceremony in West Cork on January 5, capping off a decade-long relationship.

The exciting news was shared by Rachael on her Instagram account, where she posted a picture of her Volvo car with a baby pram in the boot, playfully mentioning the change in contents. The 36-year-old retired from horse racing last year after a remarkable career that saw her make history as the first female jockey to win the Grand National and claim the title of leading jockey at Cheltenham.

Originally from Tipperary, Rachael accumulated an impressive 575 wins during her professional racing tenure. Her retirement was announced in May last year following her remarkable victory with Minella Times at Aintree in 2021.

In addition to her Grand National win, Rachael achieved numerous accolades, including being the leading rider at the Cheltenham Festival in 2021. Her remarkable performances included victories in prestigious races like the Champion Hurdle, Cheltenham Gold Cup, Ryanair Chase, Queen Mother Champion Chase, and Stayers’ Hurdle.

The pinnacle of her success in 2021 came with the World Sports Star award at the prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards. Rachael was further honored as the greatest female jump jockey of all time when she was inducted into Cheltenham racecourse’s hall of fame.

Rachael and Brian, who have been friends for over ten years, initially met during the early stages of their racing careers at a stable in Co Carlow. Despite both being jockeys, they rarely discuss racing in their domestic life. Rachael acknowledged Brian’s significant influence on her career upon her retirement, emphasizing his crucial role.

The couple has been seen together at various events, including Wimbledon, music festivals, and vacations. Brian, aged 34, has enjoyed a successful 17-year career as a jockey, securing one Cheltenham Festival victory and riding for esteemed figures such as Willie Mullins.
