Android users are advised to check for the latest security update from Google to address a critical bug affecting Dolby audio components on smartphones. This bug could allow hackers to exploit the system through audio attachments. Although Google fixed the issue last month, a wider release is now available for all Android devices.
Adam Boynton, Senior Security Strategy Manager at Jamf, emphasized the importance of installing the patch, stating that it addresses a serious vulnerability discovered in 2025. The flaw, identified as CVE-2025-54957, enables attackers to execute malicious code through Dolby’s DD+ Unified Decoder without user interaction.
It is recommended for Android users to update their devices promptly to safeguard personal data. Apple users are also encouraged to check for updates regularly to prevent any security risks. Boynton highlighted the significance of regular patching to mitigate mobile threats, regardless of the operating system being used.
To update an Android phone, users can navigate to Settings, then System, and select Software updates to check for available updates and follow on-screen instructions. Regularly updating devices is crucial in maintaining security against evolving threats.
