Lindsey Vonn may face a lengthy recovery period after a serious crash at the Winter Olympics, as per a specialist surgeon in France. The surgeon indicated that the effects of the injury could be long-lasting.

The renowned American skier was airlifted to a hospital in Treviso after a high-speed incident early in the women’s downhill race. Vonn lost her balance, collided with a gate, and tumbled onto the slope in Cortina.

Following initial treatment, she underwent further care at the hospital, where it was discovered that she had suffered a severe tibia fracture and had undergone three surgeries.

Despite making progress in her recovery, Vonn still confronts obstacles in her rehabilitation, with the possibility of amputation looming, according to orthopedic expert Dr. Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet in Lyon, France.

Dr. Sonnery-Cottet emphasized the unpredictable timeline for Vonn’s recovery, noting that it could take months before she regains normal walking ability. The primary objective now is to preserve her leg and restore mobility before considering a return to high-level skiing.

The surgeon cautioned that Vonn may encounter challenges for the foreseeable future, even without the need for amputation. He highlighted that while the surgeries were somewhat successful, the remaining fixator on her leg suggested that a complete recovery had not been achieved, indicating potential long-term implications.

Vonn has clarified that her leg fracture was unrelated to a previous ACL tear before the competition. She expressed her disappointment on social media, acknowledging the risks inherent in ski racing and the fine line between success and injury in downhill racing.

The skier remains optimistic, emphasizing the importance of taking risks and pursuing dreams despite setbacks. She encouraged others to embrace courage and resilience, underscoring the value of daring greatly in life.
