Nick Reiner, the individual accused of the tragic killing of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, has been refused access to a $1.5-million US trust fund he had hoped to utilize for his legal defense. In a recent filing, Reiner had been pursuing allegedly unpaid funds from a trust set up for him by his parents back in 1993.
Trustees declined Reiner’s request for the funds, invoking a California law provision known as the “slayer statute.” This law prohibits individuals from inheriting assets from someone they have unlawfully caused harm to, in this case, through felonious and intentional actions.
