If you’re seeking a delightful way to spend time outdoors, consider picking your own seasonal vegetables and fruits. It not only makes for a memorable experience but also allows you to purchase fresh, locally grown produce at reasonable prices.

Various farms nationwide offer pick-your-own options for strawberries, rhubarb, peas, blueberries, peaches, apples, and more. As someone experienced in U-pick activities, I have gathered garlic scapes, harvested asparagus spears, and even dug up my own potatoes (a messy but fun endeavor).

Many farms provide additional attractions suitable for all age groups. From corn mazes to playgrounds, petting zoos, and wagon rides, you can easily transform a simple outing into a full day of rural entertainment.

The timing for each crop can vary significantly each year and across different regions. It is advisable to consult the harvest calendar for your area and contact local farms via phone or social media to verify their availability before planning your visit.

With that in consideration, here are 15 Canadian U-pick farms worth exploring this year.

Maan Farms

Abbotsford, B.C.

Maan Farms offers raspberry, blueberry, and strawberry picking, with the strawberries grown at a convenient standing height to eliminate the need for kneeling. The farm also produces wine using berries grown on-site. For children, there’s the Barnyard Adventureland, featuring farm animals, a zipline, and more.

Taves Family Farms

Abbotsford, B.C.

At Taves Family Farms, visitors can pick strawberries, apples, goji berries, pears, plums, and pumpkins. During later summer months, the farm also offers a petting barn, sunflower garden, pumpkin patch, hay rides, and other engaging activities.

Twin Oaks Organic Orchard

Kelowna, B.C.

Twin Oaks Organic Orchard, set amidst scenic surroundings, provides U-pick options for various fruits including apples, cherries, apricots, peaches, and three types of pears. The onsite shop sells honey, fresh hazelnuts, and eggs.

The Saskatoon Farm

Foothills County, Alta.
