A man struggled with a weight gain of nearly 20 stone after transitioning his addiction from substances to food. Brandon Kaitschuck managed to shed five stone by embracing a pivotal realization encapsulated in seven words. Brandon’s journey into drug addiction began at the age of 15 when he initiated marijuana use.

Reflecting on his past, Brandon shared: “I resorted to drinking and drugs as a quick fix to cope with constant negative emotions. I soon discovered that I could use substances and still excel in various aspects of my life.

“While studying Mandarin, I would combine my Chinese assignments with smoking marijuana with my peers. I managed to maintain my academic performance even under the influence. I attended classes, completed high-quality work, and earned top grades despite being under the influence.”

Narrating his contrasting lifestyle, Brandon stated: “During the day, I excelled academically, associating with studious individuals. However, after school, I socialized with dropout addicts.”

Brandon’s descent into harder drug use led him to express astonishment at his survival amidst the challenges he faced.

A turning point occurred when Brandon’s drug supply depleted, preventing him from attending a crucial test, prompting him to seek assistance by disclosing his struggles with addiction to his acquaintances and seeking rehabilitation.

“I sent out an email confessing ‘Hey, I’m battling drug addiction, and I need to undergo rehabilitation’,” he recounted. Brandon oscillated between rehabilitation efforts and relapses, seemingly maintaining stability in a sales position while internally deteriorating.

Despite his addiction struggles, Brandon engaged in physical challenges such as running marathons and participating in triathlons and Iron Man competitions. His routine sometimes involved substance use, even during professional engagements, reflecting his self-destructive behavior.

The culmination of his addictive behavior led Brandon to confront a grim future of cyclical relapses and rehabilitations. Motivated to break this pattern, he sought professional guidance three years ago.

“I reached a point of utter despair where I was profoundly discontent with my self-destructive tendencies,” Brandon revealed.

Consulting with therapist Mohamad, who had previously aided him during rehabilitation, Brandon received life-altering advice encapsulated in seven words.
