A major airline has suddenly canceled all its summer flights, causing confusion among passengers seeking refunds while holidaymakers are left unsure about their travel plans.

Beond Airlines announced the suspension of services between the Maldives and Europe, as well as routes via Dubai, with no expected flight resumption until at least October. Initially attributed to a seasonal break for European routes, the disruption now appears to extend network-wide, including Middle East connections, indicating a complete shutdown rather than a temporary adjustment.

Affected passengers with existing bookings will receive communication within 72 hours, with options including fee-free rebooking for winter travel, credit valid for up to a year, or full refunds. Notably, the airline silently retracted a prior guarantee from its website that promised business-class rebooking on alternative carriers in case of disruptions, a move that has raised concerns among travelers.

Launched in 2023 as a high-end all-business-class carrier, the airline primarily catered to luxury travel between Europe and the Maldives. However, behind the scenes, financial and operational challenges seem to be straining the premium airline, exacerbated by escalating fuel costs that make long-haul routes increasingly financially burdensome, especially for smaller airlines with limited resources. Operating with just two aircraft, an Airbus A319 and Airbus A321, the airline faces mounting pressures.

Online indicators of change have surfaced, with the airline removing sections of its website, including customer assurance details and past expansion announcements. Despite prior ambitious growth plans and proposed new destinations, doubts loom over Beond’s ability to resume operations following its summer break.
