Novak Djokovic is set to face off against world No.1 Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s final of the Australian Open on Sunday, having defeated defending champion Jannik Sinner in a hard-fought match. Djokovic managed to secure a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Sinner after Alcaraz’s grueling five-hour and 27-minute semi-final triumph against Alexander Zverev.

Sinner took an early 3-0 lead in the first set, aiming to extend his winning streak against Djokovic, having claimed victory in their previous five encounters and nine sets.

Despite Sinner’s strong start, Djokovic bounced back impressively, showcasing aggressive baseline play in the second set to secure his first set win against Sinner since their 2024 clash at Melbourne Park.

The match took a dramatic turn as Sinner broke Djokovic to clinch the third set, putting pressure on the veteran Serb. However, Djokovic displayed resilience by breaking Sinner early in the fourth set, maintaining his composure on serve and forcing a thrilling fifth set.

In the final set, Djokovic’s serve proved crucial as he fended off break points, eventually taking a 4-3 lead over Sinner. Despite a late resurgence from Sinner, Djokovic managed to close out the match with a series of well-executed points, sealing his spot in the final.

Reflecting on his victory, Djokovic expressed gratitude for the crowd’s support and acknowledged the challenging nature of the match against Sinner. The Serbian tennis star praised his opponent’s performance and highlighted the intense competition they shared on the court.
