Amanda Knox has extended support to former nurse Lucy Letby, who is serving a life sentence for the murder of seven infants. Knox, acquitted in the case of her roommate Meredith Kercher’s shocking death, has corresponded with Letby in prison and shared her book with her. She expressed interest in meeting or speaking with Letby and, alongside her husband Chris, is developing a podcast focused on Letby’s case.
Describing her investigation into Letby’s situation as enlightening, Knox mentioned traveling from London to Chester to delve deeper into the matter and interview relevant individuals. In addition to reaching out to Letby, she also contacted Letby’s parents.
Knox, aged 38, emphasized the depth of their podcast, titled ‘Doubt – the case of Lucy Letby,’ spanning at least 13 episodes. While she has not directly conversed with Letby, Knox sent her a copy of her book and a letter. She clarified that the podcast concentrates on the case’s factual aspects rather than Letby herself.
During an event promoting her documentary “Mouth of the Wolf” in Greenwich, South East London, Knox responded to audience inquiries about her connection with Letby.
Letby, a former neonatal nurse, received 15 whole-life sentences for the murder of seven infants and the attempted murder of seven others at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016.
Despite calls for a reinvestigation and claims of innocence, Letby’s appeals have been unsuccessful, with the Court of Appeal dismissing her case on all grounds in May 2024.
Earlier this year, Knox announced her work on an investigative podcast about Letby, inviting listeners to explore ‘Doubt: The Case of Lucy Letby.’ Knox highlighted the podcast’s examination of Letby’s conviction for the murder and attempted murder of premature babies.
Knox expressed dismay at the negative portrayal of Letby during and after the trial, drawing parallels to her own experience with public scrutiny and misplaced certainty. She emphasized the importance of seeking truth over scapegoats in criminal cases.
