Eddie Hearn has given an update on Anthony Joshua, who has returned to training at the gym following the tragic loss of two close friends in a car accident. The boxing star, aged 36, was in a serious car crash in Nigeria that resulted in the deaths of his friends and team members, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami.
Despite sustaining only minor injuries, Joshua narrowly escaped a fatal outcome by changing seats prior to the accident. Recently, he was spotted back in the gym, putting on his gloves once again in Dubai.
Hearn, Joshua’s longstanding promoter from Matchroom Boxing, met with Joshua and shared a post on Instagram. He praised Joshua’s resilience and strength, acknowledging the heavy impact of the loss on him. Hearn highlighted Joshua’s gratitude for the support and love shown for his lost friends.
Following the incident, doubts have lingered over Joshua’s future in boxing. Hearn previously mentioned that Joshua would be taking a significant break from the sport.
Hearn emphasized the need to allow Joshua the necessary time and space to process the traumatic event before making any decisions about his future in boxing. He stressed that Joshua’s voice would ultimately determine his next steps in the sport.
Joshua has not addressed the ongoing speculation about his boxing career. Instead, the 32-year-old paid tribute to his late friends in an emotional social media post, expressing his deep appreciation for their impact on his life.
Legal proceedings against Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver at the time of the accident, are set to resume soon. Kayode faces charges related to the fatal crash, including causing death by dangerous driving and driving without a valid license.
