A teacher at a prestigious boarding school, earning £46,000 annually, has been prohibited from teaching following excessive late-night messaging to a teenage student. James Samson, aged 46 and a father of two, who served as the head of geography and a form tutor at Luckley House School in Berkshire, bombarded the schoolgirl with inappropriate texts and emails for over a year after obtaining her phone number.
The messages from Samson included suggestive remarks like expressing regret for not being able to have the student in his room and implying inappropriate interactions. He also invited the student to his room for revision and expressed enjoyment in her presence. Additionally, he inquired about her university application progress and suggested outings to a leisure center.
An investigation was initiated by school officials in June 2024 due to concerns raised about Samson’s conduct. Approximately a month later, he was dismissed from his position. Witnesses stated that the messages exchanged spanned over 40 pages, with one witness referring to the behavior as indicative of grooming.
The disciplinary panel concluded that Samson had breached professional boundaries and engaged in highly inappropriate behavior that did not meet expected standards. It was highlighted that teachers at the school are prohibited from sharing personal contact details with students or communicating with them on social media, except through official school channels like email or telephone. The panel report emphasized that Samson’s actions constituted serious misconduct and fell significantly short of professional standards.
