An elderly woman, aged 82, expressed her determination to continue attending services at a London synagogue despite a recent firebomb attack. Rhona Brickman, a long-time member of the Kenton Synagogue in Harrow, shared her resolve in light of escalating attacks on the Jewish community described by the UK Chief Rabbi as intensifying.

The incident, where a molotov cocktail was thrown through a window but failed to ignite properly, prompted Rhona to speak out about her concerns for the country. She highlighted the deteriorating situation and the need to stand strong against intimidation and hate.

Another member of the congregation, requesting anonymity, noted the fortunate placement of the thrown bottle, preventing a larger fire within the synagogue. The Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans revealed that similar incidents over a 48-hour period were claimed online by a group known as Ashab al‑Yamin, potentially linked to Iran.

Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis condemned the attack as cowardly, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer promising increased visible policing to address the targeted campaign against Londoners and the Jewish community. Deputy Commissioner Matt Jukes emphasized the commitment to maintaining public safety, with enhanced police presence in the coming days and weeks.

Jukes warned potential perpetrators of intimidation, labeling them as “thugs for hire” who will face legal consequences. He emphasized the police’s success in apprehending individuals involved in criminal acts, discouraging such behavior. The authorities remain vigilant in investigating and addressing threats to public safety in London.
