The Met Office has predicted a cold snap with wintry showers expected in the UK towards the end of April. Weather forecasting maps now indicate that up to 38 cities could witness snowfall.

According to the GFS weather model, snow is projected to fall across the UK starting from April 28. The snowfall is anticipated to commence in northern Scotland before moving southwards, possibly reaching London.

The maps display heavy snowfall in the northeast of Scotland around midday on April 28, with lighter snow in southern Scotland, the Pennines, and parts of Northern Ireland. Meanwhile, rain is forecasted in North Wales and along the east coast of England.

By 3 pm on April 29, the maps suggest snowfall in northern England, Yorkshire, and Lincolnshire, with Scotland and Northern Ireland also likely to see some snowflakes. A subsequent band of snow is expected to move in from the west, affecting western England, including cities like Manchester and Birmingham, and stretching as far south as Bristol by 3 am on April 30.

Although the snow band is projected to weaken as it traverses the UK, London could still experience some snow around 9 am on April 30, but it is expected to be less intense than earlier snowfalls in the west.

During this period, intermittent pockets of snow are forecasted to affect Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and England, potentially impacting a total of 38 cities with wintry showers.

The Met Office has warned that wintry showers might affect certain parts of the UK later in April, with a brief cold spell expected. The weather forecast for April 22 to May 1 indicates that while high pressure is likely to dominate the region, some areas may experience rain and breezy conditions due to Atlantic frontal zones. Additionally, cold air moving south could bring wintry showers to the north and east, along with overnight frost, before giving way to somewhat milder conditions.
