Mike Huckabee, the U.S. ambassador to Israel, strongly criticized the actions of Israeli settlers who besieged a Palestinian American family’s home in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, labeling it a “horrific act of terror.” The settlers have been causing trouble near the home in Qusra village, intimidating the occupants and obstructing their movement despite efforts by the Israeli military to intervene. The situation escalated as the settlers threw stones, attempted to damage a nearby stone wall, and prevented the family from leaving, leading to dwindling supplies.
Qusai Abu Rida, who along with his teenage son was defending the house, reported that they were relocated by the Israeli military to another residence but are still restricted in their movements. Loui Ridi, the home’s owner, revealed that the settlers had been targeting his property for months before the recent escalation.
Huckabee condemned the settlers’ actions as acts of terror aimed at intimidating and harassing the family, emphasizing that the Israeli military and police have been called upon to address the situation. Qusra Mayor Abed Al Athem Wadi mentioned that Israeli soldiers had evacuated and taken over six homes in the village, including three hilltop residences under siege.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) denounced the actions targeting residents to force them out of their homes and land. The Canadian government and other entities consider the expansion of settlements in the West Bank illegal under international law. Israeli military operations have been conducted to restore order, with recent dismantling of illegal outposts and detainment of an Israeli individual.
