Donald Trump has expressed that the United States does not require the Strait of Hormuz to be open, emphasizing that the country’s military activities in the region serve the interests of other nations. In an interview with Fox News from Beijing, Trump reiterated this sentiment, stating, “We don’t need it at all.” He also highlighted the role of American military interventions in safeguarding the shipping route for countries like Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain.

During his visit to China, Trump discussed various issues with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, emphasizing a shared perspective on ending the Iran conflict and preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons. Trump underlined the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz for global stability.

Despite smooth official discussions, reports indicate underlying tensions between US officials and their Chinese counterparts during the visit. Trump’s departure from Beijing marked the conclusion of a series of meetings and engagements with Xi Jinping.

Trump’s conversations with Xi also touched upon economic matters, with the US President acknowledging the presence of prominent business leaders accompanying him on the trip, including figures from companies like Nvidia, Apple, and Tesla. These leaders were described as instrumental in fostering economic ties between the US and China.

In a separate development, Trump highlighted Xi’s willingness to assist the US in addressing challenges related to the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing the importance of the waterway for oil trade. Trump emphasized the significance of maintaining open communication channels with China on such critical issues.

While addressing various topics during his visit, Trump stood firm on US policies regarding Taiwan, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio affirming that the US position remained unchanged despite discussions with Chinese officials. Rubio reiterated the consistent US stance on Taiwan-related matters in the context of broader diplomatic dialogues.

The visit concluded with both leaders engaging in discussions on key global issues, reaffirming their commitment to dialogue and cooperation amidst differing perspectives on certain crucial matters.
