“Starmer Urges Continuing Efforts for Iran-US Ceasefire”

Keir Starmer acknowledged the need for continued efforts to maintain the Iran-US ceasefire while evading questions about the state of his relationship with Donald Trump. This comes in light of the US President retracting his severe threats towards Iran and agreeing to a temporary truce after tensions escalated over the closure of the vital Strait of Hormuz.

Despite the ceasefire agreement, Israel has persisted in its attacks on Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah, a group with ties to Iran. This has raised concerns about the durability of the peace deal. Israeli officials argue that their actions are outside the scope of the ceasefire terms.

During a visit to a Saudi Arabian air base, Starmer expressed relief at the ceasefire but emphasized the necessity of ongoing efforts to ensure its permanence and to secure the Strait of Hormuz. He highlighted the importance of collaboration with regional nations to maintain peace and ensure the strategic waterway remains open.

Starmer reiterated the UK’s stance of not engaging in the conflict, a position that has strained his relationship with Trump. The British Prime Minister defended his decisions based on national interests and principles, emphasizing the need for lawful and well-thought-out interventions.

Earlier, Starmer and global leaders united in calling for Israel to halt its offensive in Lebanon. They welcomed the ceasefire and urged swift progress towards a negotiated settlement to safeguard Iran’s civilians and regional stability, thereby averting a potential global energy crisis.

The announcement of the two-week ceasefire by Trump followed Iran’s proposal for a 10-point plan to facilitate negotiations. While expressing optimism for peace, Trump indicated that US forces would remain vigilant during this period.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister invited Iranian and US officials for talks in Islamabad, while Trump hailed the ceasefire as a significant step towards world peace and a promising era for the Middle East.
