A shooting incident at a shopping center in Louisiana has resulted in two individuals sustaining critical injuries and several others being wounded. The Baton Rouge Police Department reported that ten people were hurt at the Mall of Louisiana, prompting swift action from law enforcement who secured the area. The shooting is believed to have occurred close to the shopping center’s food court around 1:25 pm local time. Emergency services have set up a triage area outside a JCPenney store, and access to the mall has been restricted to emergency personnel only.
Chief TJ Morse stated that there is no immediate danger to the public and revealed that the shooting stemmed from a dispute between two groups that escalated into violence. He expressed regret that innocent bystanders were also affected by the incident.
Mayor-president of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Sid Edwards, confirmed his presence at the mall where a command post has been established. He assured that all civilians have been safely evacuated from the mall and requested prayers for the victims and their families.
Our Lady of the Lake Hospital issued a statement advising visitors to refrain from coming to the facility during this time of crisis. They directed family members to report to the main entrance and informed that the hospital is on secured access, urging guests to avoid visiting.
