Greggs enthusiasts may soon have the option to purchase sausage rolls and other baked goods from a vending machine. The bakery chain’s executives are exploring the implementation of “unattended retail solutions,” which may involve both automated and manual vending options.

Although no specific dates or locations have been disclosed for the potential launch, this development follows the successful introduction of three smaller Greggs Bitesize shops. Recent financial reports from Greggs showed a 17.9% decrease in statutory pre-tax profits to £167.4 million for the year ending December 27 compared to the previous year.

The decline in profits was attributed in part to challenging market conditions and unusually hot weather. In 2025, Greggs opened a net of 121 stores, expanding its total locations to 2,739. The company aims to open around 120 more stores this year, with long-term aspirations to surpass 3,000 shops in the UK.

Roisin Currie, the CEO of Greggs, expressed optimism that reduced inflationary pressures would enhance consumer spending in the coming months. Despite this positive outlook, she acknowledged the ongoing challenges faced by customers, emphasizing the need for careful planning in the face of economic uncertainties.

Greggs recently confirmed that there are no plans for further price increases this year, following a recent adjustment in the price of items like sausage rolls and lattes. The company also shared the success of The Golden Flake Tavern, its first pub concept, which has attracted over 20,000 visitors and sold popular items like Sausage Roll & Mash, Gosforth 1939 Lager, and Pink Jammie Fizz cocktails.
