Petrol prices in the UK are on the rise as concerns about the Iran conflict causing a surge in fuel costs persist. A recently released interactive map now allows consumers to view average prices per region and discover the most economical places to refuel in their vicinity.

The price of crude oil surpassed $100 per barrel today amidst ongoing US and Israeli military actions in Iran, leading to market apprehensions. UK petrol prices have climbed to an average of 137p per liter, marking a nearly 6p increase since the conflict commenced nine days ago.

Experts caution that if crude oil prices remain elevated, British drivers may face further price hikes. The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit highlighted the historical correlation between oil and fuel prices, suggesting that sustained oil trading at $100 per barrel could push petrol prices to around 150p per liter, with prices potentially reaching 170p per liter if oil hits $120 per barrel.

Fuel prices across the UK exhibit significant variations based on location. Notably, Northern Ireland boasts notably lower prices compared to the national average, with Belfast forecourts offering standard unleaded petrol at an average of 125.8p per liter.

Certain areas, such as North Warwickshire, Maidstone, Breckland, and Brentwood, have recorded petrol prices exceeding 141p per liter, making them among the priciest locations for refueling. Nevertheless, each of these areas also features cheaper filling stations with prices closer to the national average.

For the most budget-friendly refueling option in the UK, drivers can head to an ASDA garage in County Durham. The latest retail data indicates that motorists could save up to £24 by refueling at this location compared to the most expensive station. At South Church Road, County Durham, the ASDA garage charges 127.7p per liter, translating to £70 to fill up an average 55-liter tank.

Conversely, the most expensive filling station in the UK is an ASDA station on the M74 Southbound, South Lanarkshire, where standard petrol is priced at 171.9p per liter, requiring £95 to fill up an average family car.

Diesel prices have surged more rapidly than unleaded petrol, escalating by approximately 9p per liter since the Iran conflict began on February 28. For diesel vehicle owners seeking savings, an ASDA garage in Kingswood, Hull, offers the cheapest standard diesel at 134.9p per liter, based on retailer-provided prices.

The prices mentioned are accurate as of Monday, March 9, 2026, at 4:45 am.
