Eight children, ranging from one to 14 years old, tragically lost their lives when a gunman carried out a shooting at two residences in Louisiana. The incident occurred in the Cedar Grove neighborhood of Shreveport early on Sunday morning in what authorities have labeled as a “domestic disturbance.” The shooter, identified as an adult male, escaped in a stolen vehicle but was later killed by police during a pursuit in Bossier Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.
Reports indicate that two women sustained gunshot wounds to the head, with a young boy also injured after jumping from a roof. While the identities of the gunman and victims have not been released, authorities mentioned that some of the children were related to the assailant.
The initial shooting happened at a home on West 79th Street near Linwood Avenue in Shreveport. Additional law enforcement units were present at the scene hours after the incident, as investigations continued.
Authorities have identified two more related shooting locations: one on Harrison Street and another on Brompton Lane in Bossier Parish. Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith described the crime scenes as extensive and unprecedented.
Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux expressed deep sorrow over the tragic event, calling it one of the city’s most devastating incidents in recent memory. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and House Speaker Mike Johnson also extended their condolences to the affected families and praised the swift response of law enforcement.
Louisiana State Police confirmed that no officers were harmed during the pursuit. They have taken charge of the investigation, urging anyone with relevant information or evidence to come forward and assist in the case.
