An individual involved in the shooting incident near the White House Correspondents’ Dinner allegedly expressed intentions to target officials within the Trump administration upon being apprehended by law enforcement. The suspect, identified as Cole Thomas Allen, a teacher and video game developer, did not specifically mention President Trump but referred to “administration officials,” according to sources familiar with the investigation.
Reportedly, the 31-year-old Allen, hailing from Torrance, California, managed to gain entry to the dinner as a guest. Law enforcement officials disclosed that the suspect was in possession of various weapons, including a shotgun, handgun, and knives.
Authorities stated that the suspect breached a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton Hotel, where the incident occurred, and fired multiple gunshots, narrowly missing a Secret Service agent who was wearing a bulletproof vest.
It was noted that Allen had not previously come to the attention of law enforcement and had no prior criminal record. Investigations revealed that the armed individual had been present at the hotel where the dinner was being held.
During a press conference, Donald Trump shared an image of the detained suspect, insinuating that the individual acted alone and labeling him as a “lone wolf whack job.”
Jeffrey Carroll, the interim chief of police for the Metropolitan Police Department, mentioned, “We do believe he was a guest here at the hotel. We have secured a room here in the hotel, and again, we’ll go through the appropriate procedures to determine what was inside there.”
