Jon Kortmansky was traveling for work when his wife Lori stumbled upon the home of their dreams. Enchanted by the one-bedroom apartment’s dark wooden floors, she placed the highest bid in 2005 without Jon’s prior approval.
Recalling Lori’s instant connection with the apartment located on the Upper East Side of New York, Jon reminisced about her keen eye for design. As an interior designer, Lori dedicated herself to turning their living space into something extraordinary. A decade later, the couple acquired the adjacent apartment, merged the two units by removing a wall, and realized their ideal home.
Transitioning into a spacious three-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment with a 240-square-foot balcony just five months later, Jon fondly remembered the essence of Lori permeating every corner of their abode.
Despite their busy schedules, the couple led a remarkable life filled with travel and weekend ski trips, all made possible through Jon’s legal career.
Unbeknownst to many, Lori had bravely battled brain cancer since her early twenties, revealing her struggles only to Jon, her college sweetheart. Their deep connection blossomed into romance two years after meeting, with Jon captivated by Lori’s infectious smile and positive outlook on life.
Following their marriage at 25, Lori’s health took a drastic turn as she faced symptoms leading to a diagnosis of a malignant brain tumor. Despite enduring numerous recurrences, surgeries, and treatments, Lori managed to keep her illness private from most, showcasing immense strength and resilience.
Post-diagnosis, Lori established her own business, learned a new language, and continued exploring the world, showcasing her unwavering spirit and zest for life.
Jon’s life revolved around caring for Lori during her final months, juggling work and the high costs of her medical care. Despite the emotional and financial toll, Jon remained dedicated to providing round-the-clock support for his beloved wife.
Lori eventually passed away in Jon’s arms in April 2021, leaving Jon in a state of emotional turmoil. Struggling to cope with the loss, Jon found solace in seeking a fresh start, eventually finding a new home that brought him peace and renewed hope.
As he moved forward, Jon gradually let go of the past, storing away Lori’s belongings and focusing on building a new life. He embraced new experiences, friendships, and a renewed sense of happiness, knowing that Lori would have wanted him to find joy once again.
