Cristiano Ronaldo has suggested that the current Saudi Pro League season may mark the end of his illustrious football career. The 41-year-old icon’s contract with Al-Nassr in Riyadh, inked in December 2022, is set to conclude next June, with Ronaldo indicating to Vogue magazine that he is unlikely to sign another deal.

“This is likely my final year in football, and I aim to leave behind a remarkable legacy,” Ronaldo expressed. The prolific Portugal forward, known for his 976 career goals, recently tied the knot with his longtime partner, Georgina Rodriguez.

Ronaldo shared insights into his post-football plans, stating, “I have my future all planned out. There are numerous activities to keep me engaged as filling the void left by football requires diverse interests and pursuits.” He highlighted his intentions to have more fun, travel extensively, engage in padel games, a sport he enjoys, and continue to savor the fruits of his labor over the past 25 years.

The ongoing 2026-27 SPL season marks Ronaldo’s 25th year as a professional footballer. Throughout his illustrious career, he has clinched five Ballon d’Or awards and five UEFA Champions League titles. Ronaldo’s stellar performance last season, with 28 league goals, propelled Al-Nassr to clinch the Saudi Arabian championship in May, securing his first trophy since joining the club and the first league title for Al-Nassr since 2019.

Following his recent wedding, Ronaldo was absent from Al-Nassr’s initial match in their title defense campaign, observing from the sidelines as the team secured a 3-0 victory over Al-Fateh. Coach Ange Postecoglou acknowledged Ronaldo’s continuous support, emphasizing his presence within the team.

Looking ahead, Ronaldo may feature in the upcoming match against Al-Diriyah in the King’s Cup on Tuesday. Postecoglou stressed the significance of recovery given the tight schedule, with only two days of rest after the previous match.

Ronaldo’s reflections on his potential retirement align with comments from his long-standing rival Lionel Messi, who disclosed uncertainties about his future in football following his father’s passing. Messi, aged 39, expressed his doubts, stating, “I used to solely focus on playing football, but now I am uncertain about my future in the sport.”
