A dedicated ultra-marathon runner lost his life during a challenging 234-mile endeavor in the Scottish Highlands just weeks before his upcoming wedding. David Parrish, aged 35 and hailing from Dumfries, was discovered deceased in a remote mountainous region of Kintail last Saturday around 10:25 pm while pursuing the record-breaking Cape Wrath Trail feat.
Parrish, a former Royal Marine, had been preparing to achieve the fastest male completion time on the demanding route spanning from Fort William to the northern extremity of Scotland, renowned as one of the UK’s most rigorous endurance tests. His demise’s cause remains undisclosed, with Police Scotland confirming no suspicious circumstances surrounding it.
Scheduled to marry his partner of seven years, Jade Lau, in just three weeks, the couple from Glasgow was in the final stages of wedding arrangements before his final run. Lau reminisced about their shared moments, expressing her shattered expectations for the future following the tragic news.
Describing her late partner as vibrant, humorous, and affectionate, Lau recalled their mutual love for hiking and mountain running, often exploring the Highlands together with their dog, Munro. Parrish, who had previously triumphed in the 2023 Cape Wrath Trail event, despite feeling exhausted, was determined to revisit the challenge.
Expressing her cautious support for his endeavors, Lau highlighted Parrish’s remarkable spirit and talents, hoping he would be remembered as a force of nature. Additionally, this year’s run held deep personal significance, as Parrish dedicated it to his late friend and fellow Royal Marine, Luke Ireland, who passed away during a mountain run in 2014.
