Google has announced that it will no longer provide updates for its Chrome browser on Mac computers running older versions of Apple’s macOS platform. While Chrome will still function on MacBooks and iMacs, users will not receive updates or security patches, potentially leaving them vulnerable to security threats.
The changes will take effect from July of this year. Google specified that Chrome version 150 is the last to support macOS 12 (Monterey), and the upcoming Chrome version 151, expected to be released on July 28, 2026, will require macOS 13 Ventura or newer. Users on older macOS versions are urged to upgrade to a supported operating system to continue receiving Chrome updates and security features.
Some Mac devices, such as pre-2018 MacBook Airs and iMacs older than the 2017 model, may not be compatible with macOS Ventura, necessitating the purchase of a new device for continued safe Chrome usage.
For a seamless browsing experience, users are advised to ensure their devices are running macOS 13 or later to benefit from the latest Chrome enhancements and security updates.
