Counter-terror authorities are spearheading an inquiry into a fire attack that occurred in London. Metropolitan Police officers responded to a disturbance in Hendon after 10.30 pm on Friday. A man was observed approaching a row of shops with a plastic bag containing three bottles of fluid, which he later attempted to ignite. Fortunately, the bottles did not fully catch fire, resulting in minor damage to the shopfront with no reported injuries. The suspect fled the scene.

While the investigation is being led by Counter Terrorism Policing London, supported by officers from the North West Command Area, the incident is not currently classified as a terrorist act. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation, with no arrests made so far.

Commander Helen Flanagan of Counter Terrorism Policing London emphasized that the recent arson is not directly linked to previous incidents in North West London. However, due to similarities with other attacks, counter-terrorism units are overseeing the inquiry. Authorities urge anyone with relevant information or footage to contact the police promptly to aid in the investigation.

Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, responsible for policing in the area, assured the community of increased police presence and vigilance following recent events. Enhanced patrols, including armed units and officers specifically trained to detect potential criminal activities, aim to reassure and protect the community.
