Emma Raducanu has expressed that she is not in a hurry to secure a new permanent coach following her recent split with Francisco Roig. Raducanu decided to part ways with Roig after the Australian Open, marking the ninth coach and seventh full-time official coach she has let go of in her career. The 2021 US Open champion cited differences in opinions on her playing style as the reason for the split.
Since January, Raducanu has been collaborating with her hitting partner Alexis Canter and is content with the current coaching arrangement as she prepares for Indian Wells in California. Despite still working with Mark Petchey on a daily basis, the 23-year-old acknowledges his limited availability due to his commitments as a Tennis Channel broadcaster.
Speaking from California, Raducanu shared her desire to reconnect with her natural playing style and instincts. She emphasized the challenge of finding a coach who aligns perfectly with her needs and preferences, expressing openness to exploring different coaching options. Raducanu praised Petchey’s influence, highlighting his significant support and guidance during their time together.
The young tennis star emphasized the importance of maintaining her individuality on the court and finding a coach who respects her instincts and playing style. Raducanu remains optimistic about the coaching journey ahead, aiming to strike the right balance between guidance and personal autonomy in her pursuit of continued success in the sport.
